Assistant Restaurant Manager

The Role

They’re words which describe the Queensberry Hotel and The Olive Tree Restaurant; if they also apply to you, then we’d love to hear from you, because Bath’s only Michelin-starred restaurant is looking for an assistant restaurant manager.

We need someone whose knowledge of fantastic food and drink is matched by the desire and ability to share it with our team and guests.

Someone who’s great with people and able to lead a small team, while working closely with colleagues, in their own department or others.

Someone who leads by example, whose impeccable presentation and personal standards will be the team’s benchmark.

This role will mainly involve the restaurant, but will also see you spending time and energy on the entirety of the hotel’s food and beverage offering, including the bar, room service, and breakfast.

The assistant restaurant manager will be responsible for – and understand the importance of – managing rotas, hours and payroll budgets. You’ll also have a passion for wines and beverages, as ordering drinks, updating wine lists and stock-taking monthly will be within your remit.

The role demands leadership skills, confidence and the ability to motivate the restaurant service in the absence of the restaurant manager; so it’s desirable but not essential that you’ve worked at a similar level in a restaurant with three AA Rosettes and / or a Michelin Star.

The Place

Our owners, Laurence and Helen, along with executive head chef, Chris Cleghorn and General Manager Joss Roussanne, all focus on a “One Team” culture, in which people love coming to work and are recognised, rewarded and celebrated.

So there are incentive programmes for all team members, a quarterly share of financial profits and a four-day week for our kitchen brigade, to reflect best practice and the changing expectations of a diverse workforce whose mental health and professional needs we take seriously. Laurence and Helen have been long-standing supporters of Hospitality Action and members of the Employee Action Programme, which supports any team member in times of need.

The colleagues you’ll be joining here come from a wide range of backgrounds: some have worked for major organisations in far-off places, some had never set foot in a professional kitchen before joining us, all of them relish working in beautiful Bath and ensuring the restaurant’s enviably high standards never drop (although if the idea of working in a Michelin Star kitchen sounds intimidating, we can promise it really isn’t).

Room Attendants

The Queensberry Hotel Olive Tree Restaurant Bath Jobs Room Attendant Vacancy

The housekeeping team plays an absolutely crucial role in our boutique hotel operation. They are the oil to the wheels that keep them turning and running smoothly and beautifully slick.

Our highly valued team of housekeepers keep the hotel and its rooms looking spick and span, immaculately spruce, gorgeously gleaming, perfectly polished, sexily spotless – and we love them for it. In fact, without them, the hotel would not be the award-winning proposition that it is today (more on that below).

Now, we are on the lookout for a full time, permanent enthusiastic individual to come and be part of our housekeeping brigade working across both The Queensberry Hotel and the multi-award-winning Olive Tree Restaurant.

This role will mainly involve keeping all areas of the hotel super presentable, preparing guest bedrooms ready for their arrival, as well as sorting linen and replenishments.

As ever, experience in a hospitality setting within a similar role is wonderful but not the be-all-and-end-all. We are always extremely keen to speak with people from all backgrounds and experiences with a positive can-do attitude and immaculate personal presentation who might like to transition into a career in hospitality. Full training will be provided to a very high standard by our team of highly experienced housekeepers.

We do, however, need to stress that the person who takes on this role must be physically fit because it is quite an active and demanding role (you will get your steps in!)

What is the deal?

This role is based on 35 hours per week, 5 days a week, 8 hours shifts per day with two half hour breaks. It will also involve working weekends and over public holidays.

Recompense

£18,000.00 per year

Front of House Assitant

The Queensberry Hotel Olive Tree Restaurant Bath Jobs Front of House Vacancy

We need an enthusiastic individual to join our brilliant Front Office team on a full-time basis. This is a glorious opportunity (if we do say so ourselves) to work in a highly successful boutique hotel environment with a delightful team. It is also truly wonderful to be on the front line of guests’ hotel experiences, whether they are abroad or here for a good old-fashioned staycation, on business or for a romantic weekend away. There is much career development with various training opportunities.

Although personality for us is always King (and Queen), we do have some stipulations for this role due to its very nature. For example, a full valid driving licence is ESSENTIAL because valet parking guest cars is a daily and frequent responsibility. Furthermore, this is a physically demanding job where you will be standing for a large part of the day and some lifting is involved when moving guest’s luggage, so a reasonable standard of physical fitness is essential.

Further responsibilities include welcoming guests to the hotel for their stay with a nice, big smile and ensuring all is in perfect place for their eagerly awaited arrival. Checking guests out (sad times but they often come back to our loving arms), taking reservations for the hotel and The Olive Tree Restaurant, some basic administration tasks and maintaining the public areas of the hotel. The front of house assistant will also be required to assist the restaurant team with bar and room service occasionally.

A high level of spoken and written English is required alongside a flawless presentation, excellent communication skills and a good local knowledge of Bath would be marvellous.

Further Specifics

Our front of house team work on flexible 7.5-hour shift basis including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays over 5 days a week. The earliest start time is 7am and the latest finish is 11pm.

Recompense

£21,840.00 per year

Night Porter

The Queensberry Hotel Olive Tree Restaurant Bath Jobs Room Attendant Vacancy

Calling all nocturnal owls who are seeking a perfectly formed part time role. We need a part time night porter – someone who likes the dark hours and who is happy to work nights.

We are a 24 hours operation and this is a very important, varied position that covers many areas of the business during the little hours. The night porter will perform security checks, carry out the role of fire warden on duty (for which full training is given), welcome guests to the hotel, valet-park the guests’ cars if and when required and show them to their rooms with their luggage.

In addition, the porter may be preparing and serving drinks and food in the bar and room service, making sure all areas of the hotel are clean at all times and overnight banking. In general, they will be working closely with the reception team to ensure all guests are looked after to the highest possible standards. Everything at The Queensberry is arranged with every guest front and centre, right down to the absence of a minibar (a purposeful move).

This is a physically demanding role so a reasonable level of fitness is necessary. The successful candidate will have a passion for providing excellent levels of guest service and enjoys working in a bustling environment. Due to the varying hours, we would also require a flexible approach in addition to the following:

  • A high level of spoken and written English
  • Immaculate personal presentation
  • Excellent communication skill
  • Good local knowledge of Bath is desirable
  • Please note that a full valid driving licence is ESSENTIAL. Valet parking guest cars is a daily and frequent part of this role

The 4.1.1

This role also involves working alone two nights per week from 11.00pm to 7.00am on a rota basis. The days you will work will vary from one week to the next. Rotas are generally prepared between 10 and 14 days in advance.

Recompense

£10.50 per hour
