Shopping

Bath has always been famous for its shopping, due to its enticing combination of well known labels and brands with local crafts, independent retailers and ingenious new ideas.

Together with the many cafes and bars in which to give feet and credit cards a break, and surrounded by the beautiful architecture and green hills, a spree in Bath is sure to make the pain of the bills easier to bear. Try Image, Annabel Harrison, and Square for designer clothes, Shoon, Orvis and Itchy Feet for outdoor clothes and travel accessories.

For the more traditional, we have excellent branches of Habitat, Laura Ashley and Russell & Bromley, and Bath has one of only two retail outlets for household mail order emporium The White Company.

Jolly's is our longest established department store, a jewel in the House of Fraser chain, and a large branch of Waterstone's hosts readings, children's events and has an excellent coffee shop.

Those who want to put a romantic seal on their visit will be sure to visit Mallory's, Nicholas Wylde, or any one of a host of clever independent jewellers. And for something out of the ordinary, spend some time browsing in Bloomsbury for art deco and unusual gifts, or Tumi for a taste of South America.

Bohemians will love a stroll up Walcot Street, and antique hunters can't miss Bartlett Street Market. When it all gets too much, the Queensberry is so central, you can just pop back to drop off all those bags, put your feet up and have a cup of tea in the sitting room, before heading out again ....
