Environmental Update
With an ever growing awareness of the impact we are having on
our environment, we have focused more of our attention on the belief that
if we all make small gestures we can change for the good.
We would like to share some of the simple initiatives that we at The Queensberry
have introduced to play our part in protecting our future.
1. Electrical Appliances. We now do
not leave our televisions in guest bedrooms on standby. The saving on
electrical consumption from standby to off is significant.
2. Energy Saving Appliances. We are now in the process
of changing all suitable light bulbs to energy efficient bulbs.
3. Bathrooms. Every time we refurbish a bathroom, or
need to replace a toilet, new fittings must be dual flush in order to
minimise water consumption.
4. Laundry. Our Laundry company is a local Bath company,
Regency Laundry. This company has a clear environmental policy to reduce
its carbon footprint.
5. Towels. We have recently introduced
a policy to allow guests to choose how often they launder their towels
during their stay. By placing a notice on their door, guests can choose
how often their towels are laundered during their stay.
6. Purchasing. Our food purchasing policy has a specific
remit to ensure that we purchase as much as we can from local, regional
and independent suppliers.
7. Waste. Our waste is collected by a local waste collection
service with a recycling mandate. Green Acre recycling take all our waste
away and recycle our cardboard, glass and domestic waste output. We are
now looking at possible ways to further separate our waste to increase
our recycling potential.
8. REAL Toursim. This year we joined this local environmental
initiative to assist us in achieving the most efficient and sustainable
approach to the running of the hotel and restaurant. Through their support
we have been able to audit the business and develop measurable targets
to work towards in order to reduce our carbon footprint. Individual team
members have been delegated the responsibility of identifying new opportunities
through the workshops offered as part of our membership.
